<body xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Whilst looking at some articles on wind
power, I was attracted by this article by <a href="http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/2007/pulpit_20071012_003200.html">Robert
Cringley</a> who talks about a Google-backed initiative to generate power using high
altitude kites.<br /><br />
While the idea seems a little wacky, I am a kite-surfer myself, and I know the name
Peter Lynn, the legendary kite maker from New Zealand.<br /><br />
So the linking of Lynn with <a href="http://www.makanipower.com/index.html">Makani</a>,
the California based and Google-backed kite power company was interesting.<br /><br />
There is another company, <a href="http://www.kitegen.com/en/">KiteGen</a>, based
in Italy doing some similar work.<br /><br />
The numbers in Cringley's article are hard to believe: that only 10,000 kites are
required to power the entire USA, but it is an interesting idea and would deal with
a lot of the issues of terrestrial wind energy (such as unreliability, land use, bird
strike, etc)<br /><br /><br /><p></p><img width="0" height="0" src="http://www.buildwith.net/blog/aggbug.ashx?id=0d24e4be-73d8-40b1-90eb-55e26c1ff6f6" /></body>
